Hey, I am new to Wicca, not in any coven just a solitare. I saw this site and thought it was pretty neat so I decided to join it, and also to be able to ask questions and possibly get answers. I just started my Book of Shadows and Grimoire, but not to many ideas on how to keep the two out of site. I was thinking about getting some sort of locking box or just hiding them, mostly because I share a house with my older brother who has a curious kid. Any ideas?

`You being a beginner, physical means of keeping things private is probably best for now. Casting certain privacy spells may backfire if not done correctly.
If your a solitary I recommend reading some of Scott Cunningham's books (see WiccanPassions recommended books). And if you have a partner or have a small group try working on circle casting with visualization as a primary focus. The visualizing is key to many spells. This may be arguable with some in here, however in Scott Cunningham's books he recommends this as well.

`Traditional Wiccan High Priestess here. Yes, with others in the house, your privacy is important. I recommend having a locked box and maybe locking your room if you keep a personal shrine. Keeping a personal shrine is the first assignment given to new folks in my Tradition and coven.
I do NOT think Cunningham is particularly good, but he is a nice start for Wicca Kindergarten Lite. He really oversimplifies the religion to the point of dumbing it down so much it loses its identity, in my opinion. Read it, sure, but don't think you know Wicca because you read Cunningham.

`Part of the problem is there are not enough covens around especially in more rural areas. Which is why I recommended Cunningham, the "keep it simple son" principle would be best for such beginners. Once from there I would agree, there is lots more to Wicca then "beginner steps".
